A slight diversion from the super-recent new logos for a news graphics package from Dubai today. The Dubai News Center is the news division of Dubai Media Inc (DMI), a government-owned broadcaster in Dubai. It produces news bulletins, both local and international, for DMI's various channels.
This package was introduced in September 2012 after a major studios revamp. News openers employ imagery shot around the United Arab Emirates and world capitals seen through a 3D model. The project was carried out in-house by a team headed by Nisrine El Lababidi, DMI's creative director. It included custom typography created for this project.
"New News title openers were created for various News Bulletins from Mid day to Local Emirates News, Weather Bulletins & Main News, over 50 news breaks from different scenes in Dubai, as well as a few other political/economical shows that air from there. Templates for the Viz-rt system were created to help the news editors create successful stories and give them flexibility in text and image. There was even a template created for the video wall that followed the new reflective branding where a simple change in images created whole story specific graphics.
The brief was to create title openers that speak about the latest issues affecting our lives from various parts around the world keeping in mind the modern feel and coherence that ties in with the actual news studios. The result was a a very modern reflective rendering of various scenes specific to the openers topics that start from Dubai and end with Dubai using time lapse videos from around the world. The Emirates News Opener included various cities within the UAE (shot specifically for this project), whereas the Main news Opener focused on top political capitals of the World." - Nisrine El Lababidi
